Today, biodegradable plastic cups are gradually gaining recognition. Whether you are a business or restaurant owner, or just someone who likes convenience and portability, disposable cups play a key role in meeting the needs of customers nationwide.

There are many options when it comes to choosing the right cup for your business, so hopefully this information will help you narrow down the competition and make the right choice. All disposable cups ultimately fall into one of three categories: paper, plastic or foam.

Biodegradable plastic cups If you've ever had bottled water, then you're probably already familiar with PET plastic. In addition to being one of the primary materials used to make water bottles, it is also widely used in cups and other disposable packaging applications.PET has higher durability than polystyrene, making it more suitable for long-term storage applications (such as bottled water).Another benefit of PET is that it is one of the most widely accepted recyclable plastics. Despite this, most PET plastics are not recycled and continue to cause significant damage to the environment. In fact, 7 out of 10 PET bottles are dumped into landfills, burned or littered.

Another disadvantage of PET is that it does not withstand high temperatures. All PET cups on the market are designed for cold beverage applications. If you or your business needs a cup for coffee, tea or other hot beverages, PET is not the solution. However, it is better than other plastic cups in terms of sustainability because of its easy recycling properties.

Many people mistakenly believe that paper cups can be safely and quickly decomposed after use. Unfortunately for our planet, this is not the case. Many paper products, especially cups used to hold hot beverages, are coated with a polyethylene plastic coating. This coating protects the paper from moisture and allows it to hold beverages such as coffee and tea without leaking.

Unfortunately, this plastic coating also makes the cups much less environmentally friendly. Studies have shown that polyethylene coatings (such as those found on most commercial coffee cups) do not biodegrade, do not slow the breakdown of the paper below, and do not shed microplastic debris. Even if the paper cups themselves break down, the polymer coating will remain for centuries.

The Compostable Hot Cup is our innovative solution to many of the problems associated with poly-coated paper cups. Instead of using harmful polyethylene coatings that do not biodegrade, our cups are coated with a bio-plastic called PLA, which is derived from corn starch and is fully compostable in a commercial setting. Like regular polymer coatings, PLA can withstand high temperatures, making it ideal for handling hot beverages without leaking toxic chemicals, melting or leaking. Even the lids on these cups are made from PLA and are 100% compostable. The double-walled design keeps drinks insulated without the need for a cup sleeve, which means your drink will stay hot and your hands will stay cool. If your business or restaurant is looking for a practical and sustainable solution, then Hyde is the right choice for you.
